Rachel’s Straightening Curly Hair Story

Straightening Curly Hair Naturally and Safely

Rachel has naturally curly hair, the kind of tight ash-blonde ringlets that Becky Thatcher had and Tom Sawyer fell in love with. Fashion has changed since then, and ringlets are no longer in style. Rachel wants to know how to straighten curly hair, and she wants to do it without the amount of time and effort she currently spends in the bathroom.

My curly Hair days

Rachel wants smooth straight hair, and she battles her kinky curly hair every day, damaging it with her diligence. She needs to learn how to straighten curly hair safely and naturally! She needs a product that will save her time, gently smooth her frizz, make blow drying easy, and be a method that she can use for years.

My Curly Hair Problem

“My hair is so hard to control! Even if I get up really early before school and use a de-frizzer product with a blow dryer and flat iron, I am never guaranteed that it will not be a frizzy mess. It is especially bad on humid days.” Rachel said. “Sometimes I’ll shower the night before, then braid it wet to get longer, more controllable waves. But what I really want is simple: straightening my curly hair.”

My HairStylist’s advice

Rachel donated her long curls last year to Locks of Love, and when she got the 12″ cut off of her hair, the stylist used thinning sheers on her tresses. “Her hair was damaged from wearing it in a pony tail when she couldn’t control it, and from the thinning sheers, which caused a lot of spit ends and uneven lengths.” said her hair stylist. “To achieve a really sleek and smooth effect, Rachel will have to keep her hair trimmed until all the ends grow out, occasionally using a flat iron when they start to frizz. I also recommend the BodipHier Natural Hair Relaxer from Fresh Look Hair.”

Why I used BodipHier Natural Hair Relaxer for Straightening Curly Hair

This semi-permanent natural hair relaxer is made from Alkaline water, and when it is applied to hair, it naturally softens the chemical bonds of the hair without damaging the follicle or hair shaft. It can be used over and over again without damage to the hair, and the result is smooth, shiny, healthy straighter hair. The active ingredient in the BodipHier is alkaline water, which penetrates into the hair without destroying the outer layer (the cuticle) and permanently softens the bonds inside the hair without breaking them. Softening the bonds of hair causes the natural curl pattern to elongate or loosen, making hair straighter.

Hair has more texture and elasticity; has been fortified with vitamins, minerals and amino acids; and restored to its natural pH balance and conditioned. It is in a much healthier state and is more capable of withstanding the stress of heat appliances.

A few years ago, the rage in hair straightening was the Japanese method. It takes about five hours, and costs about $500, and results in silky, smooth, pin-straight hair that lasts until new growth comes in. The only problem is that the hair becomes severely damaged, brittle, and unhealthy. The product can not be used over and over again.

The BodipHier is a natural gel hair straightener which works like a conditioning treatment that straightens the hair without damaging it. It costs under $20 and the effects last until new hair grows. Price is not the only determining factor, either. Some of the complaints about hair straightening products are that they remove too much body from the hair. This is not the case with the BodipHier hair straightener product. The hair still has some natural wave to it, and is not stick straight when left to air dry. This results in a “wash ‘n wear” or “texturized” look to the hair.

For Rachel, this means that she can still have beautiful looking “texturized” hair whenever she doesn’t want to fool around with blow drying her hair. She can simply air dry her hair and fluff it up with her hands to get a natural “wash ‘n wear” style that will have heads turning.

The actual process of relaxing her hair took about an hour. The package includes the relaxer cream, shampoo, conditioner, blow dry oil and a plastic cap and gloves. The first step is to stir the product and apply with your hands all the way from the roots to the tips of the hair. Let the product sit on the hair and soften with body heat for about 10 minutes with the plastic cap covering the hair. Then remove the plastic cap and work the product through with a comb until it is smooth and straight. The really great part about this product is that it is all natural, and unlike lye-based straightener products, you don’t have to rush because it won’t burn your hair or scalp. Then put the plastic cap on for another 15 minutes. You can speed up the process if you sit under a medium hood dryer. Then shampoo the relaxer out of the hair (we shampooed Rachel twice) and apply conditioner.

We blew dry Rachel’s hair to get the really straight look you see. We also touched up the ends with an ionic ceramic hair straightener because she had so many split ends. These straighteners are wonderful because they heat the hair using an ionic method which works from the inside out. It leaves the hair smooth and straight in a fraction of the time of other flat irons. We did not use a brush on Rachel’s hair at all. The blow dryer (also ionic) had a comb attachment, and we followed up the flat iron with a little hair spray applied with a comb. The stylist recommended conditioning and washing the hair with Fresh Look products every other day, leaving the conditioner in for about 20 minutes for a healthy, moisturized look.

This product is so safe that if the hair did not get as straight as Rachel desired the first time, she could immediately redo the entire process harming her hair. Or, if Rachel wanted to also color her hair the same day, that would be possible too.

The results speak for themselves. Rachel has beautiful, healthy, smooth and straight hair, and she has a method to get these satisfying results over and over. She can wear her hair straight by blow drying it and using a ceramic flat iron, or she can let it air dry for a texturized wash ‘n wear look, full of body.

“I love my hair!” Rachel beams. “It’s so easy to take care of that I’ll be able to sleep in another hour every morning!”

Rachel can shampoo her hair immediately if she wants to. This product is not lye based, and does not require time to “set”. In six to eight weeks Rachel can apply the product again just as she did the first time. It will not harm her hair, so she can apply it not just on the new hair near her roots, but on hair that has already had the product applied as well.

Another style that might fit Rachel’s active life style is to let the hair dry naturally, or to put in some curlers for a loose wet set. This basic cut (one length with an angle below her chin to the hair tips) is easy to work into many different styles, and looks great with the long loose waves of Rachel’s hair.

Rachel is thrilled with the results of the BodipHier. Her mother is even more pleased. “This hair style has given Rachel a boost in her confidence. She has received compliments from the other children in school, and feels so much better about her appearance. We will use this product for years!”
